Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Suspending Social Security and paying for Medicare

My wife is collecting SS. She claimed early and has since reached full retirement age. I believe she can suspend and collect at 70 or earlier. We'd like to use do Roth conversions and that space would open up an additional 20K. Is that true so far? I am retired but have not claimed SS and plan to do so at 70.

Her Medicare premium is taken out of her SS. If she suspends SS obviously she still has to pay the premium. Will Medicare send a bill? I am concerned about a gap in coverage. I wonder if anyone has suspended and if it went smoothly with Medicare premium payment and how to ensure no glitches.

I can call Medicare but I thought I'd ask for any real world experience.

Thanks.
