Personal Investments • Need Suggestions For Bond Portion

I have never understood bond funds very well and have mostly shied away from them. Most of the bond side of my portfolio is either in CD's and treasuries or a small portion in managed fund but with rates starting to go down I am starting to think about adding some bond funds as well as some more stock index funds. I am also thinking about converting some of my managed funds to index funds.

My advisor at Fidelity is recommending that I keep adding to Puritan or Balanced, but am leaning more toward index funds especially in the taxable accounts. I have close to 3 million dollars in CD's and treasuries and feel I could take on more risk as the money in my accounts will mostly be for long term care and future generations. I would like to get to a 60/40 or 70/30 allocation. I am presently at about 50/50. I am thinking about SPY, VTI, VOO, VTSAX for the stock portion of my portfolio. I also have some money at Vanguard. What bond funds would you recommend for such a scenario or what should I consider or research some more? Not sure what index bond fund(s) to go with?

I would appreciate any input that you have. I feel I am too conservative for what I have described above and am willing to take on a little more risk.

Thanks for your ideas.
