The contract gives him the right to show potential buyers the house, but he is asking us (politely) to be out of the house for 2 to 3 hours one time during a weekend (we can choose the day and the hours). My wife is freaked out because she doesn’t want strangers to have access to all of our stuff included clothes, valuables, and my child toys (a family with kids can mess up with our child toys for example). The landlord is assuring me that he will be responsible for anything and he will make sure no one will touch our stuff since he and his real estate agent will be there.
What should I do? Should I insist that at least one of us is there during the showing? Or it is a common thing for strangers to enter the house in that case and we shouldn’t make a big deal of it (i.e is it one common disadvantage of renting vs buying)?
