Looking for some direction. My father passed away, and fortunately, he had the foresight to more the vast majority of his assets into a trust, including his Vanguard account. After meeting with the attorney, he let me know that the Trust would need to obtain an EIN (which he did and provided to me) and that existing accounts would need to use the new EIN going forward. For his checking account, I'm just going to close the existing account, and open a new one with the EIN. But not sure how to proceed with the Vanguard account. I'm a trustee on the account (and have been for a while) but when I called Vanguard, they said that I'd need to fill out form called "Trustee Certification". After reviewing the form, it does seem to be related to a death, but it doesn't seem to address the need to switch from my father's SS # to the EIN. I'm going to call to follow-up tomorrow, but thought I'd check with the wisdom of the Bogleheads to see if anyone has had to complete this process, and if so, what forms did you complete so I can ask Vanguard to provide them to me.
