I am 30 and recently got my first job out of grad school. It's a bit late, but I finished my Ph.D. with no student debt, so I now finally get my investing in place. I am reading this forum and the Boglehead's Guide to Investing and really like the approach.
I like keeping things simple and decide to go with TDFs and they are basically 3 fund portfolios and seem to fit my needs. My 401K is with Empower, and since they charge management fees on Roth IRAs, I decided not to have an account there, although I would prefer to have both accounts in one place. I am saving 10% + 5% match on my 401K and maxing my Roth with bi-weekly contributions.
I had SoFi as my checking/savings option, so I set up a Roth IRA with them and wanted to share my experience with their service. Besides no trading fees on stocks and ETFs, now they are offering no fees on Vanguard and Fidelity mutual funds (from other firms, too). SoFi also gives a 1% match (sometimes 2%). I just wanted to see if anybody in the group has had experience with SoFi Roth IRAs. Some lacking features are auto-investment in mutual funds and rebalancing options.
One quick discussion point: I have 2055 TDFs in both my Roth (VFFVX) and 401K (WISMVX - only available in my 401K), and I wanted to add another fund (probably VSIAX in my Roth and FSSNX in 401K - no value fund available there) to each to bring some small-cap value weight since I believe that the market is too overweighted on large-cap tech companies. Does anybody know of any funds/ETFs that cover small and mid-cap value together (or even all-cap value)? What would be a reasonable % to add, as these companies are already present in the TDFs that have all market coverage?
Thank you!
