Investing - Theory, News & General • Before Treasury Direct was in operation, how did we buy I bonds?

I bought my first Inflation bonds in 2003. Held onto them for 10 years and sold when I needed the money. Rather recently started buying them again on TD. I remember getting paper bonds in 2003. And I remember being able to use a credit card at some point to buy some of the bonds. Trying to remember if it was a less feature packed Treasury Direct site I used. I know I had the Bond Wizard app on my home computer to calculate account values of the I bonds. Anyone want to take a walk down memory lane and refresh our memories of the whole I bond buying process in its earliest days?
