Our homeowners' association (HOA) changed the company that processes my monthly dues payments. With the previous agency, my bank's online bill pay would ACH directly to the HOA each month.
With the new HOA setup, my online bill pay has to mail a paper check to a lock box. This introduces potential human error and misapplication of monies.
The HOA also offers direct debit from checking. Their preferred method to set this up is to email (!) a voided check to them. They will accept mailing it to them, but the fact that they prefer an insecure email makes me think that their security procedures for storing checking account numbers is questionable. I tried to call to inquire, but they haven't answered the phone or returned my call over the past 2 weeks.
Which would you do: push from online bill pay via paper check (potentially human error resulting in hassle to me), or have HOA pull from my checking account (more certain that payment will be credited properly but potentially less secure)?
