I am wondering if I am asking for too much here.
Our 17 year old is in high school, excellent grades and generally a good kid. Heading to college for a computer science degree. He has never worked and I have been on him to get a job so that he learns to budget and be somewhat responsible by paying for gas and spending money. He came home today with a job selling knives
. I am not too sure about this. He refuses to get anything that pays less than $15/hr. This job apparently it’s $20/hr. I really don’t care what he makes as the money it’s not that important, but rather I want him to learn to have work ethic. I do worry about this job with the knives and the type of people he’d encounter going from home to home.
Yet, I’ve noticed that none of my friends that are financially comfortable have kids that work in their teen years.
Should I just give him an allowance and forget the job idea? I am seriously concerned for his safety with this sales job. We are well off with several millions invested and by the time we retire it would easily grow to well into the eight figures. He’s our only child.
Thoughts?
