Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Part D payment SS deduction

An elderly relative signed up for a new part D drug plan and requested that premium payments be deducted from her Social Security payments. She has received a letter from Social Security to the effect that the premium has been deducted from the SS check she will receive for January. However, the part D insurer's web site is now saying her initial premium is overdue.

Neither Social Security nor the insurance company will talk to me and she's not up to this sort of call. She'd rather not pay the premium herself given the SS letter and the fear the insurance company will not return the money when SS pays the premium.

I had heard that there's a grace period during which an insurer can't cancel a policy but the only thing I can find on google searches is penalties for not signing up for any part D plan on time, which is not her issue. If there's a reasonable grace period, presumably the payment from Social Security will be processed before they might suspend or cancel her policy.

Information or suggestions would be appreciated.
