Hello,
After much deliberation, I am moving my Roth account from TIAA to Vanguard for the lower-expense index funds. I have never done the transfer process before, but it sounds straightforward thus far. I have spoken with TIAA and they will email paperwork for me to fill out and return to them. They said it should then take about 5 business days for Vanguard to receive the check.
I do have a few rookie questions about the process:
How will Vanguard know what portion of my funds were from contributions versus growth? Does this even matter?
I did convert some pre-tax money from a tIRA into this Roth back in 2009. Is this something that I'm responsible for tracking at my end?
Is there anything else that I should be watching for or thinking about here?
My apologies in advance for my ignorance here, and thanks for your help.
