Hi Bogleheads,
I have a unique situation and wanted to check with you folks about best path forward (or issues i might face)
My really good friend has some visa issues (we are in US). He has to leave the country and his employer has promised to bring him back (without an ETA). He has a fairly top level trim car and would like to leave it at my place till he is back. Plan is to leave it near the curbside just outside my house so that it does not interfere with me getting in and out of my property. It is a legal spot to leave a car parked and I am sure of it. He would leave the title with me, hence incase he is not back, he says I can sell the car without his presence. He does not plan to have insurance on the car (but will renew registration tabs as an when required without missing it). His only request is I turn on the car every week and drive it for a half a mile within the community just to keep it working till he is back. Biggest complexity is, we don't know if and when he can be back to the US
He is a very good friend of mine and I would like to help out during this unfortunate phase w.r.t. his visa. Do you folks think there is anything I should be concerned/keep an eye out for?
More details about us:
Location: WA
Crime: there is 0 crime and no break ins in our area
Car: Subaru Forester (3 year old top level trim)
Our situation: I (my spouse and I) have one car of our own (Toyota) . My friend recommended transferring his Subaru to my name (for free) while he is out of the country so that I can manage any future procedures easily, if any . However, I don't want one more car and don't want to have one more car insurance. I could perhaps have the car in my name and just not take insurance for it (but I think this might come back to bite me; meaning have two cars and only the primary have insurance and secondary does not). Overall, I don't prefer having his Subaru in my name(not my thing)
looking forward to your thoughts/suggestions
