Greetings fellow bogleheads,
my cousin lives as NRA with G4 visa status in the USA and doesn't know how to get the investing setup right. Since I'm a bit nerdy as far as personal investment is concerned, I dug a bit in this forum. I think I figured it out (this thread basically served it on a silver platter viewtopic.php?t=432633) but would still like to have a confirmation whether I understood correctly.
Current situation: European citizen, NRA with G4 visa status in the USA.
Future situation: Moving back to Europe is possible, though maybe not back to the home country.
IB is the broker of choice because
1)it's easily accessible wordwide;
2) offers attractive conditions for currency exchange (current earnings are in USD, she can move to Spain tomorrow and withdraw euros at favourable rates);
3) investments in Ireland-based ETFs are possible;
4) investments in Ireland-based ETFs aren't killed off by US tax law (because it doesn't apply to her);
5) the portfolio can move with her around the world at no cost and is always accessible (IB pro subscription costs a fee, but that's it).
Am I missing something? Any other broker? IB is basically the standard solution in this forum, at least in the threads that I read.
It sounds so easy.
