I received my denial letter today for a Citi American Airlines Advantage card. I’m not a big time credit card churner but I will sign up for 1-2 cards each year if they’re offering a huge bonus. The last time I applied and received the bonus for this card was almost 5 years ago. Last year I did apply and receive a bonus for a Chase Freedom and Southwest credit card.
The main factors that contributed to my rejection are:
Your credit report shows a high amount of unused credit compared to your available credit lines and your credit report shows you have recently opened one or more accounts.
I currently have 4 credit cards (3 Chase and 1 Amex). Would it be worth it for me to call the reconsideration line and try to talk to an agent? My credit score is around an 830 and I have about 125k of available credit. Maybe I could lower some available credit on a Chase card and use that credit for the Citi card?
