In the coming months I plan to rollover my workplace 401K to Vanguard. I already have a Traditional and Roth IRA at Vanguard.
My 401K has money in several buckets:
Before tax—290K
Roth—10K
Roth Rollover—85K
ESOP—35K
Company Auto Contributions—40k
It’s my understanding that when I initiate the rollover with Vanguard, my Roth and Roth Rollover money will go to my Roth IRA and everything else will go to my TiRA, is that correct? Does Vanguard do that automatically or do I need to tell them that? Anything else I should be aware of when executing a rollover?
Also, I plan to convert some of my 401k to Roth (401k plan allows it) does it matter if I do it before or after the rollover?
Thanks!
