I have been summoned for jury selection (Voir Dire) in California for a very lengthy trial (2 months+). My employer offers an unlimited PTO policy, but to my surprise I recently became aware that they only cover 2 weeks of service on a jury. HR told me that I cannot use PTO to cover any of the time I would serve on the jury and that following the 2 week initial coverage period I will be required to go on unpaid leave. I would be interested in covering at least a few more weeks of service with PTO and don't understand why it is my employer's business what I do during my PTO. Any advice what I can do here would be very much appreciated!
