Hello Bogleheads! I want to take steps in the right direction therefore seeking advice getting started with asset allocation. I was not provided much insight on investing/retirement over the years; I know I am late the game and trying to catch up having found this site recently.
Emergency funds: Yes
Debt: None (Car: Own, No Real Estate, No Rent, No Student Loans, Lives Frugally)
Credit cards paid full each month
Tax Filing Status: Single (Will not have kids)
Tax Rate: 22% Federal, 0% State
State of Residence: FL
Age: 41
My current income: $40K-$75K (federal employee, income intermittent)
401K: currently not offered, hoping for next year with job change (intermittent -> full time).
Desired Asset Allocation: Unsure, open to advice, moderate risk, not high.
I have opened and funded a Roth IRA with Schwab to 5K but have not chosen my asset allocation, was leaning towards target date allocation, advice welcome. I plan to contribute the max every year.
I have 7K invested in a moderate profile with Sofi.
150K parked in a high yield saving account with Sofi that is ready to be allocated. I am leaning towards the 3 fund portfolio and was hoping for advice.
I opened a Traditional IRA with USAA many moons ago which auto transferred to Schwab. Currently as 3K. Should I transition this to my Roth IRA?
Can anyone weigh on investing with Sofi vs Schwab? I am open to maintaining both accounts or opening one with Vanguard/Fidelity if necessary.
Goals:
1. Start investing with smart asset allocation.
2. Contribute a significant amount to investments, I have low expenses.
3. Retire at or before 60, do not want to have to work, but enjoy working.
4. I do not have a HSA currently but can change to one during open season. Health plan is currently subsidized by employer.
5. Interested in set and forget investment, no yearly re-balancing.
6. Would like to purchase a modest investment property some day.
7. Would like to live abroad in 50/60s in LCOL area with ROI from real estate investments.
