Over the past several months I've slowly transitioned our portfolio from mutual funds to etf's, and have adjusted our AA when bands have been reached. During this period, I've noticed a small fee way down on the trade ticket that is assessed but only when selling etf's and never mutual funds.
Initially these fees were very small, under $.50 cents, lately they are in the range of $3.70 to $4.45. I cannot determine any sort of correlation within the trade amounts that would support a mathematical calculation that I would be familiar with.
I reached out to our Schwab rep to inquire about this "exchange process fee" and for us to better understand it going forward. He responded that he would get back to me after speaking with his team on the matter. This is the first time he hasn't had a ready answer for any previous questions.
The amounts are minimal, only mildly annoying at this point. We are not high-volume traders, we suddenly came into our first taxable account in late 2023 which required setting it up to align well with deferred & Roth accounts which resulted in more trades than the past decades' combined trades.
Anybody have experience with this fee?
