I've got a few questions before I make my first purchase in my Fidelity taxable account. I've found where to change the interest/dividend settings. The core (SPAXX) is set to re-invest.
1) Once I make my purchase (FSKAX) I want to NOT reinvest cap gains/dividends, so I don't create many little lots with cg/div?
2) Will the new (FSKAX) position automatically show up under the Manage Dividends & Capital Gains, then be able to change it to not re-invest?
3) Will the cost basis be able to be changed to the VG equivalent of "Spec ID", once it shows in my "Account Positions"?
In my 401k, I hold Vanguard Total Stock Market (VITSX). It's my understanding from reading the TLH & wash sale areas of the Wiki that FSKAX & VITSX are different enough (even though they are both Total U.S. Stock Market) that there wouldn't be any future wash sale issues. And, that the IRS hasn't made a clear ruling that a wash sale could/would happen between taxable and non-taxable accounts.
4) Would it be advisable to buy the Fidelity S&P 500 (FXAIX) rather than (FSKAX) in taxable, for any future TLH considerations?
I know these are rudimentary questions, but I'd rather get started on the right foot, rather than have a roadblock in the future and have to say to myself "Why didn't you ask the Bogleheads?"
Side Note: I may have totally mis-comprehended the TLH & wash sale strategy/pitfalls...
Thanks in advance!
