I have a 529 account at Bright Start for 2 kids (16 and 14). They are leaning towards a career in finance and biology respectively and I am hoping to cover both of their 4 year education at a good public university (in-state or out of state). The older one is currently a sophormore and the younger one is a freshman in high school.
I want the balance to continue growing but don't want to be very aggressive with it or very conservative with it.
I am thinking of moving everything to Index Blanaced (60-40) for the entire portfolio.
Is that a good mix going forward with the goal of earning a moderate rate of return without undertaking a huge amount of risk ?
Total saved is 300K
16 yr old
-120K (Vanguard Total Stock market)
- 40K (Index moderate age based 15-16 - 70 fixed income, 30 stock)
14 yr old
- 70K (Index Balanced - 60 stocks, 40 fixed)
- 70K (Index aggressive age based 13-14 50 fixed income, 50 stocks)
