Greetings everyone, I'll try to keep this brief but wanted to give a little background.
Am in my 40's and recently started paying more attention to my investments, retirement, and just trying to educate myself a bit more as well. I have an older 401k from about 12yrs ago that I just left there because it was doing well. Around that same time 12yrs ago or a little before I opened up a IRA for my wife and started to contributing to it. Although looking back wish I put more in but I didn't.
Fortunately I am in a position now to max our her IRA and open my own IRA and contribute to it, we still have 15-20yrs before retirement.
There are lots of other moving parts or possible questions but what I am looking for advice on the most is I currently have 2 retirement accounts, looking to open up a 3rd. Both of them (my old 401k and my wife's IRA) are in mutual funds tracking the S&P500, where should I go if I open up a 3 retirement account?
Should my wife's IRA and mine be completely different investment wise? A lot of the popular portfolios out there are always mentioning tracking the S&P 500. Thanks in advance for your time and help.
