Hey wise bogelheads, fun question for you. How to maximize runs per game in a Pee-wee 7 LL game. I have some data for you below, but admittedly not enough (slugging percentage, RBIs ect). Here are the rules…
1)5 run limit per inning. Which is part of the problem. I had been making the line up essentially in order of decreasing batting average. But then we score 5 runs in the 1st and 3rd when we are at the top of the line up, often with ZERO outs, then 0-1 runs in the 2nd and 4th at the bottom of the line up. I am thinking about changing it to strong hitter every other. wondering if that would generate more runs per game, maybe 3-4 per inning. but not sure how to run the simulation.
2)Usually 5 innings, sometimes 4, sometimes 6
3)Steals are allow, when the ball get past the pitcher. So if you can get on base with a single, it is often a triple.
4)We usually get through the lineup 2.3-2.5 time. I had hesitated to move some of the stronger kids down in the lineup, bc I wanted them to get 3 at bats. But I would rather score 3 runs every inning than 5,0,5,0… The only problem is the last inning when I would prefer stronger batters to still get a 3rd at bat. But, if we are squeezing in more batter per inning (no zero out innings) then maybe we will get through the line up 2.8x, idk. (time limit is 90 minutes, after which you cannot start a new inning
5)No walks, so onbase % not helpful
I have the batting average and bat-on-ball averages (put the ball in play, didn’t strike out) for all 7 games, and the last 3 game. Several players started out rough but have come on much stronger. My latest idea is to basically go every other batter with a strong hitters and sneak in weaker hitters, with upside, in between. Again, trying to avoid getting 5 runs and zero outs in one inning followed by 0 runs in the next. Let me know what you think!
Batting average/Ball in play average per 7 games, then last 3 games
Player A 0.952/0.952 0.889/0.889 kinda slugger
Player B 0.231/0.308 0.500/0.667
Player C 0.857/0.952 1.000/1.000 kinda slugger
Player D 0.579/0.789 0.429/0.714
Player E 0.800/0.900 1.000/1.000 slugger
Player F 0.333/0.583 0.500/0.833
Player G 0.800/1.000 1.000/1.000 BIG TIME SLUGGER
Player H 0.714/0.714 0.750/0.750 Kinda slugger
Player I 0.500/0.643 0.667/1.000 Kinda slugger
Player J 0.500/0.563 0.333/0.5000
Player K 0.583/0.308 0.167/0.333
