Has anyone done this? If so, will you share your experience?
I recently lost inspection and appraisal fees when I decided to back out of the deal due to seller recalcitrance on repair costs. I feel that my agent should have been better informed, more involved and had actually visited the property at least once. We were shown the property by the agent's assistant and the agent made multiple mistakes. What's worse, they refuse to listen to my wishes and have tried steering me in the wrong direction. Needless to say, I have lost faith in the agent and will be asking to dissolve the legal agreement.
This got me thinking about representing myself. I know that many real estate forms clearly state: "for use only by a licensed real estate agent". What is stopping me from engaging a real estate attorney and dealing with everything myself? It's certainly not rocket science and I am perfectly capable of doing it.
But I wanted to hear from other Bogleheads who have been in this situation and made it work.
