Good Morning!
Q: When is it time to sell an Income Fund?
I own FKINX ($32k), MHOAX ($76k) & MHITX ($78k) with Edward Jones (I know...), as part of my portfolio.
In 8 years and 10 months I show Capital Losses of -$658, -$9,424 & -$7,633 respectively. At the same time, they show Annualized Returns of 4.76%, 3.96% & 3.97%. Portfolio is low seven figures. My husband and I both turn 60 this year.
I am diligently trying to educate myself on investing. I have opened Vanguard accounts for both myself and my husband and plan to leave EJ. I have intended to leave them for a long time but just haven't done so. I'm grandfathered into the old system but, can't change anything without paying their annual AUM commission.
So, dealing with these losing Income Funds is my first step. How do you assess them? They pay dividends but have lost significant value. My gut says sell, sell, sell. I just wanted to hear how you all analyze these funds. I'm prepared to call my broker today and tell him to sell all of them and hold in cash. I would then move it all to my Vanguard account and invest the money there. Thank you in advance.
