Although from Maryland the Dulles area I rarely go to except for international flights. This time we will arrive from Europe around 9pm and with time to get through customs it obviously will be later. I am no longer living in the area so no car or housing.
We plan to spend at least a few days further north around Ellicott City. I could get a rental car that night but I might be exhausted and really don't want to return back to Dulles. Most likely we will fly out of BWI with a slim chance of DCA/Reagan.
We could find a hotel nearby that night and then some transportation to head north and get a rental closer to bwi or ellicott city.
Or bite the likely expensive bullet and get an uber, taxi, etc. and head to Ellicott City and crash for the night and get a rental the next day.
Trying to keep things convenient without busting the wallet but no option seems ideal. I am guessing any hotels around IAD won't be cheap and unless there is a free shuttle will involve paid transportation.
While writing this I am thinking I will need to find a reasonable way to head to Ellicott City and rent a car the next day since I am familiar with the area.
Anything I am overlooking ?
