[Topic is now in Personal Finance (Not Investing) - mod mkc]
Probably been answered before but haven't had time or internet connection due to our current storms. One of our relatives , married once before, is collecting partial SS benefits from deceased spouse.
Recently she was told by SS staff that when her ex is deceased she should apply for his spousal benefits as his earning were far higher and his benefits will be much higher than what she currently recieves.
Does she have to wait for him to be deceased or retire? Another relative had told us she was collecting her spousal benefits now (at 63) though all her previous ex's were still alive? And she is collecting from the one that has the highest benefits.
Is the first relative able to collect now and is it full benefits or just half?
Thanks for any info on this and I will check back as I can get to higher ground with cell service!
