My dd is struggling getting a very high scholarship or racking up debt for Ivy prestige. Stanford is the only TBD left, she was accepted in all the other historical and non-historical T14s, except Yale (WL) and Harvard (WL). Though she thinks she could do well at Chicago, she doesn't want to consider, maybe as some say because of the fun factor (competitive forced curve GPA/rigor). So T1-3 is probably out at this point.
Cart before the horse follows:
Her career path thinking is big law, probably southern CA (but if extremely lucky, she would consider doing an interim low pay clerking position at a higher level court), then she thinks corporate counsel, but she has mentioned litigating in IP law as well (she did one of two big law internships in IP).
Asking the JD 5+ years later down the road crowd here, is Columbia, Penn worth $150-200K debt over no debt options like UVA, Duke? She's assuming good location portability into big law from any choice, but later on, is it likely an Ivy JD could open more doors? Anyone had regrets optimizing on scholarship?
Thoughts very much appreciated
FYI, this is a follow up, 13 months later, from this debt thread, my post on it viewtopic.php?p=7705520#p7705520, I think it's specific enough to not revive that one, mods, feel free to move move if more in line there.
