Personal Finance (Not Investing) • 2024-25 Financial Aid application for Law School (T6)

My daughter got admission to one of the T6 law schools. DD wants to apply for merit scholarships at the school. DD said that the FAFSA application (which is for need based aid) does not require parental financial information whereas their institutional aid application will ask for parental info. We are not interested in applying for need based aid (because we will not qualify due to assets in our possession). I am not comfortable sharing parental assets information with DD or with the school.

Law school website says:
Most of our scholarship aid comes from Dean’s Award scholarships, which are merit- and/or need-based grants in amounts up to full tuition. All students admitted to the School of Law are considered for scholarships through the financial aid process. To be considered for these scholarships, admitted students must complete our on-line institutional financial aid application. Upon receipt of your completed financial aid application, the Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid will review the application together with your application for admission. You will be notified of any award(s) following the committee’s review.

Note: If you will be 28 or younger on September 1 of the academic year for which you are applying for financial aid, parental financial information must be submitted on the financial aid application in order to be considered for need based awards.

My question is since we are not applying for need based aid, can we omit parental financial information so that she can be considered for any merit aid? (Please see the Note above which only talks about need based aid)
Am I interpreting this correctly?
Anyone been through this? Any law school admission counselors? Thoughts?

Thanks for your help
