Say you're holding VTWAX well before the ex-dividend date (which was 12/15/23 for the most recent distribution) and have selected dividend reinvestment. Vanguard refers to 12/15 as both the ex-dividend date and also as the reinvestment date. Would you expect the new shares to be purchased at the 12/15 price, or does it depend? I'm particularly interested in what happens at Merrill Edge, if the answer is brokerage-specific. Thanks.
