If you have a streaming device (firestick or Roku) do you usually plug it into the tv and then use optical out of the tv to the AV receiver? Or do you plug the "stick" into the receiver directly as you would do with a DVD, gaming box, etc. ?
The last couple of years I've been in a "temp" living situation and was just using my tv or soundbar and not my receiver. Now back into a larger house I don't think the soundbar is sufficient and at a minimum want to try out a 3.1 setup with my receiver (an older Yamaha RX-V673 7.2-Channel Network AV Receiver). Doing anything more than 3.1 is going to take some time since it would involve running cables up the wall over the roof and back down the wall behind the sofa so not something being anytime soon due to the hassle and/or cost.
I like the simplicity of the soundbar but the quality is less than what I recall getting out of the AV receiver and speakers. I don't want to go down the expensive route of buying Sonos or other equipment at this time.
