I filed to start SSA at 69 and 8 months which will gross $4580/month. Speaking with the SSA representative today, she brought up the 6 month look back, which would gross 4437/month with an approximate 25,000 lump sum payment. Considering a difference of only $143/month going forward (14 1/2 year recoup time), I'm tempted to take the look back and the lump sum. My health and that of my spouse are both good.
Can you help me quantify the negatives to taking the look back? Thank you.
