I'm very worried I made a mistake by doing an IRA partial distribution as a direct transfer/conversion to Roth IRA.
And if not, then what is the correct distribution code for 1099-R Box 7 please?
I made a Fidelity IRA partial distribution as a direct transfer/conversion to a Roth IRA at Fidelity last year.
I used the Fidelity online IRA to Roth IRA transfer/Roth-conversion online process and saved screenshots.
I am over 59 1/2 years old.
I expected the IRA distribution to be all taxable and I paid the tax using Estimated Tax payment.
The resulting Fidelity 1099-R Box 7 said: Code 7 (normal distribution) for the partial distribution.
- Please help me understand if the IRA partial distribution as a direct transfer/conversion to Roth IRA was allowed by IRS or was it a mistake for some reason.
- Also please help me understand what is the correct code that should be in 1099-R box 7.
Thank you. All insights would be greatly appreciated.
