Hi all,
I am in the midst of a divorce. I am proposing how to settle our accounts. I am the lower earner of a high earning couple, so I feel I need to get as much as I can in this settlement. I make ~$300k, my husband makes about $725,000.
We have his pre-tax 403b (2 of them), his pre-tax 457b, his roth, my roth, my 401k, our HSA, our joint brokerage, our joint savings account, our joint checking account, and a piece of real property (a lot we jointly own). My lawyer said there wasn't a need to split every account in half. But I'd very much prefer to have ownership over, say, the roth account/brokerage/HSA versus half of his 457b for instance. I want to retire early still (even as a single gal). So I still very much need access to non-retirement accounts before age 59.5. Can anyone help me think through this in terms of strategy? Or things to consider? Or resources to help? Thanks!
