Personal Consumer Issues • Insurance check for car repair to me or shop?

My car is going into the body shop for repairs.

Is it better for the insurance company to cut me a check that I sign over to them, or for them to pay the shop directly?

I think the amount final amount negotiated between the insurance and body shop will be more than the current estimate.

I'm expecting to pay only the deductible.

Anyone had experience with this?
