I'm retired. I feel comfortable in bonds and cds, but not equities. I don't need this money and am not taking any distributions from it. I already have a sizable 5 year ladder of bonds and CDs taking advantage of the higher rates that were available and a sizable 10 year ladder in individual TIPs. So going forward as my ladders mature and grow I've been thinking about using Bullet Shares to extend into 2030. I've been pondering blending the hy-yield etf with the investment grade etf to enhance my overall yield. If I were to do this, I'd limit my hy-yield holdings to at maximum of 30% of my investment. At this movement in time, that would get me a blended yield of over 5% for that extended 5 year rung.
I realize you all like BND but I want my fixed income investments to have a defined maturity date.
Your thoughts on this strategy, both con and pro would greatly be appreciated.
