In 2011, my investment assets were about $30k. I had no idea what I was doing when it came to investing. I used to freak out when my 401k dropped by $500. I used to think it was important to sell when the market was going down to lock in gains. I watched CNBC to "manage my 401k".

In 2012, I received a significant sum of money from a business sale. This was life changing for me. I didn't know what to do and found this forum. I couldn't believe that I was supposed to dump this money into an index fund and never look back. I kept reading the "Stay the course" posts and couldn't believe that was the right answer.

After several months on this forum, I got comfortable with it. I dumped the money into Vanguard Total Stock Market. I never did anything over the last 12 years other than constantly visit this forum to keep reading the "Stay the course" during the tough times. This forum gave me confidence to break all of the old bad habits.

That initial investment is now worth about 5x the original amount. My portfolio now goes up and down in a day by what feels like a massive amount and I feel nothing. I am in this for another 20 years.

To the people who keep saying "Stay the course", it's very impactful. Thank you.
