I am buying a new car, which will be titled in both my wife’s and my names. However, my wife is not able to go to the car dealer with me. I have a power of attorney so that I can sign on behalf of my wife, and she is fine with me doing this.
I informed the dealer of this arrangement, and they asked that I send them a scan of the POA document in advance, and then bring an extra copy they can keep. Is it ok for me to give them a copy of the POA? We’ve never used the POA before, so we don’t know if it’s normal for someone to ask for their own copy to keep, or if they normally just look at it and give it back to you.
Is there any way that giving them a copy could result in any kind of identity theft or other mishap? Are there any safeguards we should take?
