Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Credit card fraudulent transaction? Chip used

I noticed an unusual charge on my credit card. It didn't reveal actual name of merchant, just a generic term. I couldnt recall the transaction. So i called the credit card company and they could not or would not reveal actual name of merchant and address. They canceled my credit card to be safe, sent me new one. After investigating, they came back and said the charge was valid because the chip was used (ie, not an online purchase). The fraud dept also could not or would not reveal the merchant name or address. Someone else called me back to say yes it was legit and they reversed the credit so I have to pay: but would not or could not reveal the merchant name or address.

Do I not have a right to know the actual merchant details?

If a credit card chip is somehow fraudulently used, does that mean the card holder legally is left holding the bag?

There were no other unusual transactions. I want to know the merchant info because if it's valid I of course want to pay it, but don't want to pay if I do not know.
