I've had an IRA with Schwab Intelligent Portfolio for some time, and I'm in the process of moving this to a simpler self-directed 3-ETF-fund setup.
I've already moved all of the existing SIP holdings "in-kind" to a new self-directed Schwab IRA.
I'm now holding 18 ETFs in the self-drected account. The asset allocation is, on the whole, not that far off from my target allocations. But I'd like to sell all of these positions, and buy positions in my 3 target ETFs.
I'm fairly concerned that I'll somehow end up taking a hit on these trades - from spread, settlement period, etc.
I was hoping this forum could provide some sage advice the best way to execute the trades to do this. Would you sell off each asset one by one, then immediately purchase the corresponding ETF in the 3-fund portolio, over a short period of time? Or would you take some other strategy?
I'm not trying to be clever or time the trades here... I just want to find the best approach to preserving/transferring the full market value of my existing investments to the new funds. Thanks in advance for the assistance.
