Last August I got a new set of tires at Costco and today I went to do rotation. At the end of work, I was told one front stud has PTS damage and they could not put the lug nut back on. They said my car is pretty old (2006 car) and they had a hard time to take the tire off. They also told me it is safe to drive with 4 lug nuts, and I should get it fixed by a mechanic.
I had no proof that this happened because my car was too old or because they used too much force, so I left and went to a mechanic and was then told this can be fixed with at least $150, mainly labor, because the front brake part is more complicated.
An easy free tire rotation turned out to be more time required and some extra cost. I am not sure if someone else had similar experience. Do you think it is fair for me to ask Costco to share the cost of this repairment? 10 months ago they installed the tires without issues and now they could not take off the tires and had to damage one of the studs.
If the car is too old and this is not something by their mistake, I can accept it too.
