Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Negotiating Raise or Rate Change as Contractor

Hello,

I have a quick question about negotiating a rate increase (raise) as a W-2 contractor (IT/engineering). I have mostly been a FTE during my career but I took a contract about 6 months ago. The recruiter/agency said the role was to last 6 months initially and we agreed upon a rate. It is coming up on my 6 month date and it is clear that the client is both very pleased with my work and plans for my role to continue (I get positive feedback and I am booked in meetings all the way until Dec 2024). The agency has been pretty sloppy (perhaps intentionally) with my onboarding and the benefits are less-than-desirable (not a surprise). I reviewed my offer materials and I can't really find any mention of the duration of the contract. I would really like to get a bump in my rate but I am not currently job hunting as I am focused on the client. The agency knows they botched up my onboarding and I have been accommodating and understanding. Now that I have proven my worth, I would like to ask for a rate change.

Any thoughts on how to navigate this situation. The contract does prohibit soliciting FTE from the client (normal stuff) so I am not necessarily barking up that tree. Do I start looking for a new job or can a person initiate this conversation with the agency in a reasonable manner?

Thanks in advance.
