After 30+ years as a customer, I'm contemplating moving away from Vanguard. I had an issue with them several years ago that took many months to resolve (their error) and the recent communication concerning a number of new fees- including the exit transfer one- is providing impetus once again. Schwab is advertising a referral bonus of $1,000 for transfers $500K+ and when I reached out to Fidelity (where I have a comparatively much larger balance than the one at VG), they wanted $1M+ to match. My VG total falls short of the requirement Fidelity has indicated is in effect for me.
So my question- is there anything with the "Schwab experience" that would suggest such a move isn't worthwhile? For the "transfer in kind" activity it would be a mixture of mutual funds, bond funds, and individual stocks.
Thanks.
