Personal Consumer Issues • What Advice Do You Have For A Climate Controlled Storage Newbie?

I’m going to be putting my household possessions (including furniture, home decor, accessories, washer/dryer, art, sports memorabilia, electronics, clothing and etc.) into storage for a couple months. I’ve chosen to use a local climate controlled storage facility. They offer a maximum of $10,000 of insurance. I’m going to be storing possessions that I’d estimate to be worth approximately $475,000. Give or take $50,000. Because I’ll be between homes I won’t have a homeowners policy during this time. Whether or not that even matters I don’t know since storage is offsite of my residence anyway.

Does anyone have any recommendations for insurance coverage for situations like this or general tips for keeping pristine possessions clean, safe and did I mention clean? The facility is new with modern security and drive in access to individual, enclosed bays. Not sure if I should put plastic drop cloths over everything, take precautions against anything else (rodents, bugs, etc.) The place looks ultra clean and secure but I don’t want any surprises when I go get the stuff in a couple months. Thanks for any advice, tips, suggestions you have.
