Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Studying for CFP exam just because?

On my to-do list for the year is to find a CFP to fully review our portfolio and strategy for Fl. After some preliminary research, I see that it will cost approximately $3k for this one-time service while only $5k to prepare for the CFP exam itself.

I may not study all 7 courses so may not get as far as the exam, and I won't need to, but it sounds interesting enough to try. No plans to work as a CFP. Just want the benefit of knowledge to optimize my own finances.

Thoughts? Has anyone studied the material (coursework) just for kicks? Did it benefit you personally?
