3pax Regent cruise from Vancouver to Seward. Post cruise-We would like to go to Denali by train and are looking to stay 5-6 nights. Return flights are out of Anchorage. Arrive in Seward beginning of August.
Problem is: Cruise ship arrives at 6AM in Seward. Connection for Seward to Denali leaves at 9:15A and that's an impossible connection . I cannot find any train that leaves Anchorage later than 9:15A -are there any? so it would mean 1 day in ANC first day post cruise and then 1 overnight in ANC before flying home. That would mean 2 nights Anchorage and then 3 night, 4 day land for 6 days.
I would like suggestions or comments on other possibilities. 1 pax wants to drive but I don't want to do that. We're looking for a 3-4 day land package that includes train at least 1-way to Denali. Trying to decide about a possible stop in Talkeetna? --is it better to spend 1 of the nights in Talkeetna --and say 2 nights in Denali or all of the nights in Denali?
I'd love suggestions--I've looked at Princess and an Alaskatravel.com website. I've read old threads that suggest not booking with Princess as their railcars are super crowded.
Edit: Travel agent suggestions welcome.
Edit #2--I'm 81 and sitting for a long time is impossible thus no car. Even bus would be difficult and I'm now rethinking that.
Thanks.
