There have been other posts on this topic but I haven’t seen the following questions answered definitively.
Spouse and I are recently retired and planning to do lots of international travel over next decade. Naturally, we use credit cards whenever possible, but we will need to routinely get local currency as well.
Both Fidelity and Schwab (and others) offer account types that provide reimbursement of some/most/ all of the different potential fees (out of network fees, ATM owner fee, foreign transaction fee, etc). related to international ATM use. To be clear—I’m asking about ATM cash withdrawals using a PIN debit card —not credit card cash advances; not point of sale debit transactions.
Has anyone had experience with the Fidelity Cash management account —specifically—does it reimburse for FTF (foreign transaction fees) incurred on ATM withdrawals? Previous post have referenced a footnote on fidelity’s product info page which excludes FTF …. but some posters have indicated that the exclusion relates to debit purchase transactions. I spoke with a fidelity rep and they couldn’t be certain.
Has anyone had experience with Schwab account (for example-their signature visa debit card attached to investor checking) — specifically—does it reimburse for FTF (foreign transaction fees)?
Has anyone had experience with other accounts /institutions that offer end to end reimbursement of fees related to international ATM withdrawals?
Thx in advance,
