Is there any issue with filing a tax return that I plan on amending later?
Situation:
We fostered a child this past year, and the child lived with us for more than six months. So I think we are entitled to claim the child as a dependent. However, I've heard that the IRS will reject electronic filing if someone else claimed the child too, which I'd say is likely. Unfortunately, I can never file my taxes until basically the filing deadline due to having to wait on some K-1's that never show up until a few days prior to April 15th. Also, I have a large tax refund coming this year, and I would really rather not get it delayed months and months. So what I'm thinking of doing is filing electronically once the K-1 forms come in, *without* claiming the foster child. Then, after my refund clears, do an amended return via paper, where I can attach some documentation regarding the foster child, and basically plan for it to take a while to get the last $2k or however much it will be.
